Summer Camps

Our FAX machine has been fixed. However, if you send an enrollment by FAX, please call to confirm we have received it.

Open enrollment for Summer Camp 2024 starts Monday, April 1. Enrollment is on a first come, first served basis. Placement is subject to availability of space at the desired site. Submission of the enrollment form is not a guarantee of placement. Should enrollment exceed available space, a wait list will be started for that site. Enrollment forms should be submitted to the KCSCEP office as noted on the cover page of the enrollment packet.

For Summer 2024, KCSCEP is offering four summer camps for Kanawha County Schools students who were in kindergarten through fifth grade in the 2023-2024 school year.

Summer Camp provides a variety of recreational and educational activities and projects supervised by experienced staff. Each camp will go on field trips to the pool, the movies, and bowling. Special field trips planned for this summer so far include a trip to Kanawha State Forest for a program by the West Virginia Naturalists, and a trip to Horseshoe Heaven on Smith Farm in Scott Depot. Presentations onsite at summer camp will include dance programs by River City Ballet, painting with Alto Design, a one day basketball camp with players from the West Virginia Grind, a storyteller, and guest readers from Read Aloud.  A calendar of events will be shared with parents/guardians.

  • Breakfast, lunch, and snack provided daily.
  • Weekly fee is due Monday (or the first day of the week your child attends). The fee is a weekly fee; there are no daily rates. We do not charge to hold slots when a child is not in attendance for a week (e.g., family vacation). Fees or copays not paid on the first day due are subject to daily late payment fees. If fees or copays are not paid by the end of the week, the child cannot return to the program until the account is paid in full.
  • CONNECT/LINK child care assistance is accepted. We must have a copy of your certificate or a notice of coverage before your child starts, unless you opt to start as Private Pay until your coverage is confirmed. If you currently have a certificate for Third Base or another childcare provider, you will need to call your caseworker to have it changed to the KCSCEP summer camp site. At the end of summer camp, you would request they switch it back to your Third Base or other provider.
  • The program revolves around weekly themes, swimming or water fun, guest speakers, arts and crafts, field trips, and a variety of recreational and education activities and projects supervised by experienced staff.
  • The program will be closed on June 20 (WV Day) and July 4 (Independence Day), which are holidays. No reduced rate for these weeks.
  • A Child Medical Form or similar report completed by your child’s doctor is required. You can either submit it with your enrollment, or turn in to the camp site director no later than the first week of attendance. If we don’t have it on file by then, your child will not be able to attend until we receive it.
  • Summer Academy Afterschool care – if your child is attending a KCS summer academy, June 10-28, and you need afterschool care, you can apply for a spot in summer camp. Your child would ride a bus to the summer camp designated for his or her summer academy, and you would pay the 2023-2024 Third Base rates (1 child $65, 2 children $90, 3 children $115) for care, and have the option to continue in summer camp as of July 1 at the summer camp rates.
  • Students at Lakewood Summer Academy and Pt. Harmony Summer Academy can apply to Central Summer Camp.
  • Students at Bridgeview Summer Academy and Weberwood Summer Academy can apply to Overbrook Summer Camp.
  • Students at MCSWSE Summer Academy, Pinch Summer Academy, and Midland Trail Summer Academy can apply to Elk Summer Camp.
  • Students at Sissonville Summer Academy can apply to Flinn Summer Camp.

The Summer Academy afterschool care rates apply as long as the student only attends after school during the weeks of summer academy. If you bring your child to summer camp earlier in the day instead of sending them Summer Academy during those weeks, you will be billed for the full summer camp rate.  After summer academy ends, the full summer camp weekly fee will be charged if your child attends. Please indicate on the attendance form what weeks you plan to use the service.

The enrollment packet has more detailed information about summer camp. You must submit the completed enrollment form and be approved before your child can attend. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis. Placement is subject to availability of space at the desired site. Submission of the enrollment form is not a guarantee of placement. You will be notified if your enrollment has been approved and space is available for your child. The $30 family registration fee would be billed to your account and due the first day of attendance, along with your weekly fee. Register by May 10 to receive a $10 discount on your registration.
